The Foodies Academy will take middle school students on an outdoor adventure for the entire six weeks! Wear old clothes, tie back the hair, and be ready to be active! It will be a dirty, challenging six weeks from planting, to producing, to experiencing new produce, to selling what we grow. Students will work on a private farm some days and in their own Park Avenue Community Garden other days. In the classroom they will study the life cycles of plants and they will sketch out a variety of garden diagrams. The students will read about what works in gardening and what fails, working in teams to test out some of the hypotheses. They will have cooking experiences under the direction of a seasoned cook in the Park Avenue Methodist Church kitchen and even tantalize the taste buds of their parents. Youth will get down and dirty for six weeks. It will be a young foodie’s paradise!
Grab your paddle and come travel what enthusiasts have called one of the nation’s finest canoeing rivers! Your trip will begin near Nine Mile Creek on a quiet stretch of the wild and beautiful Flambeau River. The next few days will have you enjoying the time of your life as you spend sun-up to sun-down in the presence of bald eagles, beaver lodges, spruce and birch forests, and the wide open sky. Midway through your trip, listen for the roar of rapids as you make ready for some adventurous whitewater! If you’re lured by the call of the wild, the Flambeau River awaits!
Trip is led by experienced guides from Camp Amnicon, an ACA accredited organization.
This is a Park Avenue tradition! Challenge yourself to a great biking adventure that will combine camping, group interaction, scenic beauty and challenging physical activities. We will be biking about 50 miles a day and camping in beautiful state parks at night. This trip is one of Park Avenue’s BEST trips so sign up early and reserve your spot. Trip will be lead by Americorps Leah Ritz.
